OUR SPECIAL TEAMS
High Angle/ Confined Space Team
The High Angle/Confined Space team rescues of any person that is in a high angle or requiring vertical movement or within an OSHA defined Confined Space environment.
Trench/ Structural Collapse
The trench/ structural collapse team operates in situations that include location and removal of victims in an underground collapse involving trenches or excavations.
Water Rescue
The water/ dive rescue team responds to any water related search, rescue, or recovery, and provides specialized training and equipment to safely accomplish the tasks.
OUR EQUIPMENT
Kingsport Life Saving Crew responds to any and all emergencies within Sullivan County that the team is requested. The individual teams that make up the KLSC Special Teams are High Angle/Confined Space Team, the Trench/Structural Collapse Team and the Water Rescue Team. The special teams at Kingsport Life Saving Crew are also members of the Tennessee Homeland Security District 1 Urban Search and Rescue Team (USAR). The USAR equipment is stored in a 53' enclosed trailer with a 30' enclosed trailer set up for logistical supplies.
Rescue 1
"Heavy Crash Rescue Unit"
This is the only vehicle of this type in the Region.
It is used for:
- Large/ multi vehicle wrecks
- Industrial accidents
- Trench accidents
- Structure collapse
- Confined space accidents
- Farm accidents
Rescue 2
"Personnel Carrier"
It is used for:
- Shuttling manpower to/ from emergencies and call-outs
- Transportation for organ transplant physicians to and from ariport/ hospital
- Transportatin for members attending out of town classes and meetings
Rescue 4
"Utility Pick-up Truck"
It is used:
- As a 4-wheel drive unit to move manpower/ equipment to emergencies
- During inclement weather as a light crash unit
- As a primary tow vehicle for various size trailers
- For physician transportation for organ donor transplants
Rescue 5
"Medium Duty Crash Rescue Unit"
This truck is used on a daily basis.
It is used for:
- Motor vehicle accidents
- Medical responses
- Light rescue
Rescue 6
"Light Crash Rescue Unit"
It is used:
- As a 4-wheel drive truck
- As a primary rescue unit during inclement weather
- To work area racing events
- As a secondary support vehicle for auto accidents
Rescue 7
"Utility SUV Personnel Carrier"
It is used for:
- Medical responses
- Organ transplant physician transports
- Secondary tow vehicle for trailers
Rescue 10
"Rehab Unit"
This Medium Duty Box Truck:
- contains food and temporary shelter for up to 200 workers.
- is equipped to prepare and serve food as needed.
- also houses generators for extra electrical power inside and outside of the truck.
Rescue 11
"Trench Rescue Unit"
It contains:
- Shoring equipment (wood panels/ timbers and pneumatic tools to safely stabilize trench wall shoring)
- Saw shop to custom cut panels and timbers for shoring
- Heavy lifting equipment
- Dewatering pumps
- Fresh air exchange fans
Rescue 12
"Urban Search and Rescue Unit"
(Affiliated with Tennessee Homeland Security-District 1)
Contains:
- Equipment for up to 70 trained personnel for a 14 day deployment to disaster areas
Rescue 20
"Water Rescue Unit"
It is:
- Used for swift water/ flood and drowning accidents
- Equipped with specialized dive gear, sonar equipment, underwater camera, PPE and rope gear for water rescue/ recovery
Quick Response Boats
"First out on a water rescue or drowning."
These boats:
- Are first out on a water rescue or drowning.
- Are equipped with side scan sonar and underwater cameras.
Pontoon Boat
"All divers work from this boat."
This boat is equipped with:
- a dive platform to better serve KLSC's divers entering and leaving the water during a victim recovery mission.
Sonar Pontoon Boat
"This boat is specially designed and rigged to use side scan sonar and underwater robots."
This boat is:
- specially designed and rigged to use side scan sonar and underwater robots. The robots have lights and a camera to send video to the pontoon boat team.
Jet Ski
"Used on river rescues and to assist with other water rescue/ recovery operations."
The Jet Ski:
- is used on river rescues and to assist with other water rescue/ recovery operations.
Mules
"Kawasaki (Mules) ATVs"
They are used for:
- Off road/ trails
- Wilderness areas
- Lost/ injured persons in remote areas
- Searches
- Transport of rescue personnel to hard to reach areas
- Crowded areas like Fun Fest, parades, and sports events
4-Wheeler
"Kodiak ATV"
It is used for:
- Off road/ trails
- Wilderness areas
- Crowded areas like Fun Fest, parades, and sports events
Communication Trailer
"Supports USAR Teams with communications."
This Trailer:
- contains multiple radio systems with satellite service.
- supports USAR Teams with communications (Rescue 12) and other related units.
Rope Trailer
"Supports All Rope and Confined Space Rescues."
Used to house equipment for:
- High angle rescue
- Low angle rescue
- Confined space rescue
- Urban and wilderness search for lost persons
Race Trailer
"Support for KLSC's race rescue teams."
It is used for:
- Support for KLSC's race rescue teams
- Rehab unit for rescue personnel as well as race team members
